There are plenty of wonderful options when considering camping near Missoula in May. Many people consider areas on the outskirts of Missoula when picking their campsite including Lolo, Frenchtown or Clinton, Montana. Campsites on the outskirts of “the big city of Missoula” gives you the rustic, outdoors experience and easy access to tons of activities, restaurants and events. The best of both worlds!
Yellowrock Campground is located just a few minutes from Lolo, which is ten minutes from Missoula. You’re nestled at the base of Lolo Pass and next to Lolo Creek. This is the ideal setup for a home base while you’re exploring the region.
When camping near Missoula in May you can expect all weather conditions. We have a saying in Montana, “there’s no such thing as bad hiking days, only bad gear.”
Pro Tip: Pack for all weather conditions. Bring tall socks, hiking boots, a rain jacket, fleece jacket you can layer underneath, light gloves and a hat. A few extra pairs of socks come in handy!

Make sure you are planning a route that has pet-friendly campgrounds and to review policies. Many campgrounds are governed by local health department regulations, meaning we are required to follow laws such as using leashing in certain areas and areas where they can relieve themselves.

Do I Really Need an RV Campground Reservation In Advance?
Short Answer: Yes! Due to popularity Montana RV and tent campsites fill up quickly, especially in the summer months. To have the best experience possible we highly-suggest booking your campsite in advance.
One of the best things about spring camping is that popular destinations aren’t as busy yet! By the way, you can beat the crowds and enjoy an adventure by camping in May.
